There is no simple way to design a home that is truly green…but we’re working on it! This jewel box of a home may just prove that elegance and environmental efficiency can go hand in hand---a glass box supported by steel that will sit lightly on the land, “floating” above the ground on a hill in the woods. Plans on the drawing board call for glass walls made of double glazed low “E” windows to make use of natural daylight, and to minimize the boundaries between indoors and out.Window placement will take advantage of natural ventilation and solar energy, and enlightened roof design will catch rainwater, to be stored in a cistern and recycled for irrigation. Low water use appliances and a ground source heat pump will provide further energy efficiency.
