A HOUSE FOR A SMALL PLANET

 

For this project, we set out to bring the best of our past designs—classically inspired farmhouse architecture, fine cabinetry work, and beautiful modern amenities—to a unique country home.  Sited with total privacy it revels in glorious views towards a protected conservation pond and farmland.  A glimpse of distant mountains adds another layer to the setting  which feels remote but is only minutes from the town of Sharon. This house for a new millennium evolved from its original footprint with an addition which includes a two story master wing with an artist’s studio. 

 

We also gave much thought to sustainable design elements and energy efficiency—intelligent window placement and natural ventilation to cut down on heating and cooling costs and to maximize passive solar energy. Environmentally friendly building materials, such as certified wood products were used as well as highly efficient appliances and fixtures throughout.  The open floor plan and separate guest wing accommodate large gatherings as effortlessly as day to day family living.  A horse barn and paddocks complete this Sharon, CT small farm idyll.
